Youth Village Symposium
Guyana will be hosting CARIFESTA X from the 22nd to 31st August, 2008. A relatively new and special focus will be that of “Youth and Edutainment”.
In addition to a Caribbean Edutainment Seminar and regional shows with such groups, there will be a Youth Village.
The theme for the CARIFESTA X is “One Caribbean, One People, Our Life, Our Culture”. For this to be realized and make a lasting impact there must be an investment in and space for our youths and the village will seek to do just that.
CARIFESTA X will therefore provide an opportunity for youths to showcase as well as experience “Our Culture”, while at the same time being exposed to skills that will encourage meaningful participation and an appreciation for our way of life. The Youth Village
The CARIFESTA X Secretariat will be responsible for establishing a youth village at the National Park in Georgetown.
The village will be youth friendly and organized to provide edutainment for youths by youths. It will also have a number of interactive centres for youths to develop their talents and express their creativity in various forms, while at the same time addressing needs and issues affecting youths.
Objectives of the Village
- To provide a forum for showcasing talents and creative expression of youths, in a challenging and stimulating environment with a diverse mix of cultures.
- To showcase the rich cultural diversity of the Caribbean.
- To provide an opportunity for youths to develop basic vocational and life skills through interactive sessions.
- To foster greater awareness of health and social issues affecting youths through interactive centres.
- To provide entertainment and fun for youths in a safe environment.
