(CARIFESTA Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) Republic Bank Guyana Limited today became the official bank of CARIFESTA X with its presentation of $10M to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. The sum, which was presented by Managing Director of Republic Bank Guyana, Mr. Edward Gooding to the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, will go towards the grand opening ceremony set for next Friday 22 August at the Guyana National Stadium.

In brief remarks at the presentation ceremony held at the Promenade Court, the Bank’s Georgetown Head office, Gooding acknowledged the enormity of CARIFESTA and its significance to Guyana on which he noted the spotlight will be trained for the mega festival. He said Republic Bank and its sister companies looked forward to the splendour which the festival will provide beginning with the curtain raiser which promises to be a cultural spectacle.  Notably, the opening and closing ceremonies will be beamed across the Region live via the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC).    

Minister Anthony in reciprocal remarks cited the importance of partnerships which Guyana has secured for the hosting of CARIFESTA to which end he expressed appreciation to Republic Bank for its corporate response. The Minister assured that Guyana “will set the tone and a standard for other hosts to follow” with its planned roll- out for CARIFESTA X. 

 Earlier today, the Minister received a cheque for $10M from Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company GT&T for CARIFESTA. The telephone company has also made other contributions towards CARIFESTA X.
