Visual Arts Exhibits Mounted for CARIFESTA X

CARIFESTA Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The lobby of the Guyana International Convention Centre has been transformed into a visual arts showpiece with the mounting of several outstanding exhibits in preparation for the opening of CARIFESTA on Friday 22 August.

On Monday 18 August, members of the CARIFESTA Visual Arts sub-committee commenced mounting exhibits at various locations across the city as part of the visual arts trail which is being created for CARIFESTA X. The trail, which winds through several city sites in Georgetown and its outskirts, includes the African Heritage Museum, the National Museum and the Gynasium in Georgetown.

Notably, the Convention Centre will also host the CARIFESTA Symposia and Film Festival which are both expected to attract scores during CARIFESTA. In addition, it will accommodate the media centre providing local, regional and international media with a central hub for garnering and sending off reports electronically as the centre will be fully equipped with wireless facilities.

Meanwhile, liaison officers who will work along with the various delegations coming to Guyana for CARIFESTA X today converged at the Convention Centre for a briefing on their respective roles within the roll out of the festival. The board elements outlined included accreditation, transportation, security, communications and protocol.

Chief Executive Officer of the CARIFESTA Secretariat, Nigel Dharamlall urged the liaisons to be good ambassadors while executing their assigned tasks while CARIFESTA X Artistic Director, Dr Paloma Mohamed, presented a brief overview of the festival.
