Literary Arts – “Telling Our Story”

(Youth Jamboree participants only)

Objective: 

Write a short story or poem inspired by your CARIFESTA XV experience. It could be your country’s participation, a memorable performance, new friendships, or what being Caribbean means to you.

 

Submission Options:

Short Story: Up to 1,500 words

Poem: Up to 40 lines

Possible Themes:

“The Moment I Felt the Caribbean in Me.”

“When the Drumbeat Spoke My Name.”

“A Stranger from Another Island Who Felt Like Home.”

“A Day at the Grand Market.”

“What I Learned About My Island and Myself.”

 

Writing Tips:

  • Use vivid description, let the reader see, smell, and hear CARIFESTA through your words.

  • Write with emotion and honesty, your story should feel real, even if imagined.

  • Mix memory with creativity, you can write a reflective essay, a fictional story, or a narrative poem.

  • Use Caribbean dialect or expressions if it helps capture your voice.

  • Include a strong title and make sure it relates to your theme.

 

Formatting Requirements:

Word or PDF document

Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt, double-spaced

Include your name, country, title, and word count on the first page
