Let’s get loud for the one-man musical explosion – Lowrey Leon Worrell! Known onstage as Lowrey Leon, this dynamic solo artist, multi-instrumentalist, and audio wizard is the Music Coordinator for CARIFESTA XV, the Caribbean’s largest and most prestigious cultural festival. But long before he stepped into this leadership role, Lowrey was already orchestrating a legacy of musical brilliance across the Caribbean and beyond.
With a career spanning decades, Lowrey Leon is a true musical polymath—a master of keyboards, bass, drums, production, mixing, and mastering. He holds a Diploma in Education (Distinction), a First Class Honours BA in Arts & Entertainment Management, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Educational Leadership, proving that he takes his craft as seriously in the classroom as he does on stage.
The CARIFESTA XV Visionary
“As the Music Coordinator for CARIFESTA XV, my role involves overseeing all music-related programming for the festival—from artist selection and scheduling to logistical coordination, production planning, and performance execution,” he explains. Being chosen he added was, “both an honour and a humbling experience.”
Lowrey's mission at CARIFESTA XV? To ensure that the diversity and excellence of Caribbean music are celebrated at every turn. His curation focuses on inclusivity, innovation, and emotional resonance. From soca to gospel, calypso to jazz, reggae to folk, Lowrey is determined to reflect “the heartbeat of the Caribbean—authentic, bold, and boundless.”
He hopes his legacy will be one of musical excellence and regional unity, where future generations remember CARIFESTA XV as the festival that “offered unforgettable experiences for both artists and patrons.”
A Life of Global Grooves
Lowrey has graced stages across the globe, performing with international icons like Yolanda Brown and John Lodge (UK) and Caribbean greats such as Michele Henderson (Dominica), David Rudder, Baron, Black Stalin (T&T), Alison Hinds, RPB, Mikey, and Andre Woodvine (Barbados), as well as Lt. Stitchie and Junior Tucker (Jamaica). He has also performed at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival, Bequine Jazz, Martinique Jazz, Chinese Fish & Dragon Festival, Ottawa Blues Festival, Barbados Jazz Festival, Barbados Gospel Fest, World Tourism Awards and Tobago Gospel Fest.
Whether it’s jazz, gospel, or contemporary Caribbean fusion, Lowrey Leon brings passion and polish to every performance. Outside of his solo projects, he is the Musical Director of the Christ Church Foundation School Steel Orchestra, the Barbados National Youth Steel Orchestra, Black Banana Band and The Project Band and former musical director of Barbados’ leading comedy revue Laff It Off.
As owner of the production company Mousike, he has also nurtured countless emerging talents while delivering high-quality productions for clients and collaborators across the region. Lowrey’s discography includes the albums Feature (2020) and I Am Barbados (2013).
Music With a Message
The formation of his jazz band Black Banana during CARIFESTA Barbados 2017 remains one of his fondest memories.
“We performed several original compositions that would later be featured on our debut album, Feature,” he shares. A particular highlight was backing Michele Henderson, whose tribute to The Mighty Gabby was a powerful reminder of how CARIFESTA can unite generations and genres in a single, unforgettable moment,” he recalls.
Lowrey's passion for music is matched only by his commitment to education. With degrees in music, entertainment management, and education, he is paving the way for future leaders in the Caribbean's creative industries.
Leaving a Legacy
“For Barbados, I want CARIFESTA XV to showcase our capacity to host a world-class, culturally rich festival that honours the past while embracing the future,” he says. “For the wider Caribbean, I want this edition to serve as a model of cultural cooperation, artistic integrity, and creative innovation.”
Whether he's on stage, in the studio, or behind the scenes, Lowrey Leon Worrell is redefining what it means to be a Caribbean creative. His vision, versatility, and virtuosity are a gift to the region—and thanks to CARIFESTA XV, the world is now hearing the full force of his sound.
